COLONIE – Vera I. Cristo, 91, passed away peacefully in the arms of the angels to join her husband, on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospital after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure. She is predeceased by her husband, Guillermo, her parents Philicetta and Nicholas Iarossi and her nine siblings.
In her teens, Vera was known as a singing talent in Albany with weekly appearances on the radio network WOKO singing jingles for the Clover Leaf Creamery. She was also the first female singer to be featured on Farnsworth Television.
Vera is survived by two daughters, Phyllis L. (Gordon) Pomeroy and Geraldine D. Cristo-DePaul and four sons, William (Christine) Cristo, Jr., Nicholas V. (Linda) Cristo, Peter A. Cristo and Richard R. Cristo. She also leaves behind regrettably her seven loving grandchildren, Theresa, Thomas, Julie, Pamela, James, Katie, and Karen and her eight dearly beloved great-grandchildren. She will truly be missed by family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.), then to St. Francis de Sales Church, 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
