Vera Stancil

April 3, 1951 — September 17, 2022

Vera Elizabeth was born On April 23, 1951 to Edith Marie Marable and James Perry Marable, Sr. in Albany NY. She was raised there and attended Albany Public Schools. In the early 60s she and best friend Cheryl Stancil got their first jobs and worked together as summer camp counselors. They enjoyed listening to records, shopping for records, dancing and singing. It was in the midst of this friendship that she met and married Rodney Stancil, Cheryl's older brother. Eventually, Vera and Rodney moved away and had three children whom they loved and cherished. Jai, Cerise, and Jody. It was from the shores of the North Carolina coast to the Coast of sunny San Juan Puerto Rico that they raised their children; eventually settling down in Detroit, Michigan.

Vera was a wonderful wife and mother and loved her family dearly. She worked as the head cook at The Presbyterian Villages of Redford, where she was loved by the residents. She was an extremely talented craftswoman and baker. She lavished her family and friends with cakes and crafts that were both beautiful and delicious. Anyone that needed to have a wedding, birthday, graduation or holiday cake made, would call Vera. She made beautiful corsages and boutonnieres, too. It was during one prom night that neighbor and great family friend, Damon Crooks brought his prom date over who was in tears because her corsage was falling apart. Vera came to the rescue and fixed her corsage and off they went to the prom. She spent many years making wedding, graduation, retirement and baby shower cakes for her family and dear friends .
