ALBANY - Verdis Tucker, Jr., sometimes called "Mr. D", was born to Verdis Tucker, Sr., and Annie Taylor Tucker on November 22, 1928 in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
After a long illness, Verdis peacefully slipped away on October 22, 2007 at home, surrounded by his loving daughters, Jacquie Tucker Ponds and Joanna Clark Womack.
Verdis was a resident of Albany NY for many years. He served in the US Navy, where he fought as a boxer sponsored by Motorola. He was a hard and dedicated worker and retired from Tobin Packing, Albany Housing & Albany Medical Center. He loved socializing with friends, reading and watching the court TV and boxing shows. In his younger days he participated in the ABC Bowling League and was recognized as an excellent bowler.
Verdis was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Annie Mae Green Tucker, and his long-time companion, Mary Williams. In addition to his daughters, Jacquie and Joanna, he is survived by his brothers, John Tucker Sr. and James Tucker; his special nephews, John Tucker Jr., James Tucker, Joseph Tucker, and Joseph Forte; his niece, Felicia Tucker; his step-daughter, Hazel Swindell; his sister-in-law, Georgia Tucker; his brother-in-law, Mack Slade and a host of family & friends.
Worship service will be held at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church at 140 2nd St Albany, NY on Saturday, October 27, 2007 commencing at 1:00 PM. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow immediately at the Capital Woods Apartments Community Room (former Dudley Heights Apts. on Lark Drive).
