Guilderland - Vernon Philip Meyer, 89, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
Vernon was born August 30, 1935, to the late Henry and Mary Ann (Gipp)
Meyer. Vern lived his whole life in Guilderland and attended St. Margaret Mary's elementary school. He graduated from Philip Schuyler High school in 1952. He was a member of the Westmere Fire Dept. for 50+ years and held several offices including Chief. He was also a member of Watervliet Rod & Gun Club since 1972, winning multiple marksmen awards. He was a hardworking man all his life and became a certified cabinetmaker through the union, he worked for both himself and the Gerhard Gerstenberger Company. Vern cherished his family above all else, he was devoted to the care of his late mother and the raising of his sisters after the loss of his father. He was kind, warm and friendly, but also stayed true to his beliefs. He was a very intelligent man and known to be a master of many trades.
Vern is survived by his sister, Joyce (Brian) Mattice; his nephews, Brian (Katie) Mattice Jr. and Matthew (Anastacia W.) Mattice; his nieces, Theresa (Raymond) Jurevicius, Alisa Hauusgard, and Heather (Mark) White; and several cousins and great nieces and nephews. Along with several good friends. He was predeceased by his siblings, Henry L. Meyer and Carol (Ted) LaMountain. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11th, from 10 to 11 a.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, where the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Guilderland.
