Albany – Victor J. Rutzky, 83, died Sunday November 18, 2007 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Monticello, the son of John and Mary (Van Winkle) Rutzky. After graduating from high school Victor furthered his education at Alfred University.
Victor was part of America's greatest generation. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and served for four years during WW II. After his military service he started his professional career with NY Telephone where he worked until his retirement in 1982. The phone company is also where he met Mary Ann Carey, they married September 25, 1948.
Victor was an active parishioner at St. Pius X church, serving as a Lector and a Eucharistic Minister, a Foster parent with his wife for over 25 years, an actor and orator in the Monticello Actors Guild, a member of the Knights of Columbus and an avid sports fan, his favorite teams being the Siena Saints and the Yankees.
He is survived by his wife; Mary, his daughters; Marianne (Alan) Williams, Peggy (Gene) Stryjek and Rosanne (Tom) McKee, his grandchildren; Morgan, Allison, John, James, Michael, Conor, Sean and Gillian and his great grandchildren; Peyton and Collin, his sister Ruth, several nieces and nephews and special friends Dorothy and Victoria.
The family would like to especially thank Dr. Coates and Julie Huss in Palliative Care at St. Peter's Hospital.
Funeral services will be Wednesday 8 am from New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.) then to St. Pius X, church, Loudonville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 am. Calling hours will be Tuesday 4:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
