Violet Anne Hitchcock

June 9, 1935 — November 24, 2024

Violet Anne (Weyant) Hitchcock passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, at the age of 89. Born June 9, 1935, in Binghamton, NY, she was one of ten children of John and Irena (Keesler) Weyant. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond C. Hitchcock (2019), and an infant son, Paul Stanley Hitchcock (1962.)

Violet graduated from Binghamton Central High School in 1953 and attended the Practical Bible Training School in Binghamton, graduating in 1957. She then moved to Chillicothe, Ohio, where she met and married Raymond in 1961. Over the years that followed, Violet and Raymond fostered special needs children. She shared her love of music, learned sign language, and taught piano and Bible school. She cherished her collection of dolls and books. She loved to browse flea markets and garage sales, looking for special treasures that reminded her of family members and special times in her life. She and Raymond also loved to travel, visiting family and friends throughout the northeast and midwest, and attending worship services of different denominations. Her faith was an important part of her life, carrying her through many challenging times. She enjoyed genealogy research and developed family trees for both her and Raymond's families. While living in Columbus, OH, she was an active member of the University View community and was known for her beautiful gardens and statuary. In 2022, she moved to the Albany, NY area to live near her sister and family. She was very thankful to have been able to spend the last years of her life close to her family in Albany and Binghamton.

Violet is survived by her sister, Betty (Weyant) Hamilton, many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and their families, members of Raymond's family in Kentucky, as well as special friends in the Columbus, OH, region. In addition to her husband and son, she was predeceased by her sisters, brothers and their spouses, Joseph and Esther Weyant Cutri, Nellie Weyant, John and Betty Weyant, Everett and Janice Weyant, John and Janice Weyant Tyler, Faye Weyant, Albert and Hannah (Ann) Weyant, David Weyant and Arthur Hamilton; and cherished nieces and nephews gone too young.

A memorial service and burial at Chenango Valley Cemetery, Binghamton, NY, will be held at the convenience of the family.
