COLONIE - Virgelee "Virge" Pinkney Burgess Robinson, 79, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness.
Virgelee was born on September 26, 1932 in Jersey City, NJ and was the daughter of the late James and Pearl (Shuler) Pinkney. On April 23, 1988 she married Benjamin Robinson.
Virgelee worked for the Tootsie Roll Candy Co., Lightolier Electrical Co., Martinizing Dry Cleaners, Provident Bank, and then retired from the NY Stock Exchange where she had worked for 14 years.
Virgelee was a member of the Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church in Jersey City, NJ where she was a member of their Women's Club and Pastor's Aide and was also co-chairperson of their Women's Day Program. Through the years Virgelee had been an active member of the church wherever she lived. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Rebecca Chapter # 11. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, sewing, talking and being a philanthropist. She also enjoyed being with family, friends and loved ones.
In addition to her husband, Virgelee is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Yvonne Burgess-Reed and her husband Artis Reed of Colonie; her cherished grandchildren, Jonathan A. Reed and Courtney A. Reed; her loving sisters, Ernestine Granison and her husband Henry and Pearl Newell and her husband Grover. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, James Pinkney Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Monday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Interment will follow the service at Memory Gardens in Colonie.
