Virgencia M. "Sissy" (Gardy) Dowen, 65, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2015 with her loving family by her side. Sissy was born on April 29, 1950 to the late John and Emma Gardy.
Sissy loved playing Bingo and going to the Casino's with her best friend, Jean Gardy. Sissy's passion was her loving family and the children she cared for over the years, whom lovingly called her Aunt Sissy and Nana.
Sissy was predeceased by her sisters Louise St. Lewis and Caroline Swartz and her brother James A. Gardy.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, William J. Dowen; her children, Georgieanna "Gigi" (Patrick) Bernard and Victoria "Vicky" Moore; her brothers John Gardy, Joseph (Jean) Gardy, and Samuel Gardy; her sister Catherine (Edward) Blackman and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 4-8 PM on Tuesday, November, 24, 2015 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 9 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
