Virginia A. Linton, R.N.
Virginia Almena (Askew) Linton, deeply revered and dearly beloved family matriarch, died at her home in Delmar, NY on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at age 102. Born on February 10, 1912 in Oswego, New York, she was a daughter of the late Ina Nash Askew and Clinton Thomas Askew. She was predeceased by her husband, Ainsley Moore Linton, of Delmar, formerly of Stockton-on-Tees, England, and by seven of her eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter Barbara A. Patterson, of Delmar, her son Charles R.A. Linton, of Guilderland, her sister Marie (Askew) Smith, of Millis, MA, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and 20 nieces and nephews. Virginia was educated at the Kensington Hospital for Women School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA, and was a Registered Nurse at Philadelphia General Hospital and later at Albany Medical Center Hospital, where she served for the bulk of her career and from which she retired in 1977. In her retirement she cared for her grandchildren and the children of friends, and served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Her family will cherish the memory of her patient, gentle, caring manner; her ready laughter and self-deprecating wit; her ability to complete the New York Times crossword puzzle without effort, even on Sundays; and her unerring wisdom about life. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Community Hospice of Albany County and the other caregivers who cared so lovingly for Virginia in recent years, and special thanks to Virginia's nephew Ronnie Babcock, his wife Jackie, and Virginia's niece Diane Askew Arend for their visits and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice of Albany County, 455 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
