Virginia L. Clayton

October 31, 1931 — October 7, 2017

REXFORD – Virginia Lee Clayton, 85, of Rexford, passed away peacefully in her residence at Coburg Village on October 7, 2017.

Virginia was born in Newark, Ohio, on October 31, 1931, the daughter of J. Lee and Ethel (Mallarnee) Oxley. She graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1953, where she earned a degree in social work. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. In 1954 she married Roger E. Clayton, who was from Corinth, N.Y., and also graduated from Miami University. They made their home in Newark, Ohio, until 1973, when they moved to Queensbury, N.Y., following Roger's acceptance of a position with Evergreen Bank of Glens Falls.

While in Queensbury, Virginia was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, where she served as a treasurer of the church's Women's Society. In addition, she was a member of the Glens Falls Club of College Women.

After living in Queensbury for 30 years, and following the loss of her beloved husband of 49 years, Virginia moved to Coburg Village in Rexford, N.Y., to be closer to her sons and their families. She established many treasured friendships at Coburg Village, and she will be greatly missed by those who knew her. She was a member of the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed going on trips with her friends from the church. Above all, Virginia loved spending time with her family. She found great joy in celebrating special occasions with her children and grandchildren.

Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Roger E. Clayton, who died in 2003; loving mother of Douglas A. Clayton (Janet) of Clifton Park, N.Y., Paul D. Clayton (Laura) of Brunswick, N.Y., and Theodore M. Clayton (Catherine) of Rexford, N.Y.; adored grandmother of Rachel Clayton, David Clayton, and Brian Clayton. Virginia is predeceased by her loving parents and her brother, Dr. G. M. (Genevieve) Oxley.

The family wishes to acknowledge the expert care that was provided by all of the medical professionals and compassionate caregivers who provided comfort and support to Virginia.
