Virginia E. Olsen

GUILDERLAND, NY – Virginia E. Olsen, 82, of Guilderland, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Anna Boel. Ginny was the salutatorian of her graduating class at Rosselville High School. She worked as school secretary for Shaker Road Elementary School for ten years. Mrs. Olsen taught Sunday school and led numerous Bible study classes at Albany Wesleyan Church, Christian Women's Club and Loudonville Community Church. She was an excellent cook and an expert seamstress and quilter. Ginny is the beloved wife of 63 years to Roger B. Olsen. She is the devoted mother of Jo-Anne Young of Houghton, NY, Christina L. (John) O'Neill of Schwenksville, PA, Constance M. (John) Kennedy of Nepean, Ontario and David E. (Donalee) Olsen of Kennesaw, GA. She is the sister of Bernice Knowlton of California, Paul (Shirley) Boel of North Carolina and Jane (Russell) Rickert of Virginia. Ginny is the cherished grandmother of Steven Young, Heather (David) Macy, Amber O'Neill, Erin (Sam) Class, James (Sarah) Kennedy, David Kennedy, Erika (Andrew) Olsen, Matthew (Tina) Olsen, Isaac Olsen and Eliza Olsen and also her adopted grandchildren, Jim Young and Teena Keokanya. She is the loving great-grandmother of Aylish Kennedy and Evan Class. Also surviving is an extended loving family.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Virginia E. Olsen.
