COLONIE - Our beloved mother, Virginia M. Cerone, age 91, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 17, 2013 after a short illness. Virginia was born on November 11, 1921 in Albany, New York to Maria Cira and Joseph Teresi. She was an Albany High School graduate with the class of 1940. She was married to Joseph P. Cerone for 45 years until his passing. She previously worked for Albany Public Market, NewKirk Associates, Schenectady Discount and retired from employment with New York State Wage Services Department. She loved music, attending the Albany Symphony Orchestra and was a fan of classic movies. She was a long-time parishioner of Christ Our Light Church in Colonie and loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ above all. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose favorite activity was spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children Joseph D. Cerone (Maretta); Cristina Colangione (Rocco); and Stephanie C. Lombardo (the late Joseph F., III); her sister Mary Teresi and Sister Miriam Joseph Teresi, O.S.F; her 11 grandchildren, Melissa, David, Jacob and James Cerone; Tara, Maretta and Daniel Colangione; and Joseph, Cary, Kiel and Ashley Lombardo; and 9 great-grandchildren.
The family sincerely appreciates everyone's prayers and kindness during this time. We would also like to recognize the doctors, nurses and hospice staff who cared for her at Memorial Hospital.
A prayer service will be held on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 8:45 a.m. at Newcomer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, followed by a Catholic Mass of Christian Burial at Christ Our Light Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville at 10 a.m. Interment thereafter at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
