Virginia Munafo, 88, passed away peacefully with loving family by her side on Sunday, June 24, 2018. She went home to be with the Lord and is now reunited with her beloved husband, mother, father, sons and other family members. She was born in Schenectady and was the daughter of the late Mary (Marotta) and Francis Tanzillo. Virginia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph A. Munafo Sr. (1985) and sons, David Munafo (2017) and Baby Son Munafo (1961). Virginia was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Virginia graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1947 and the next week started working at General Electric, where she was a dedicated employee for 13+ years. She also gave a lifetime of volunteer service at various organizations, but her most important and cherished work was loving, caring for and raising her family.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, who loved her family and made them her life! She enjoyed spending time surrounded by her loved ones, creating delicious meals and providing countless acts of loving service.
She received enormous pleasure and joy in being her family's biggest cheerleader and fan, fully supporting and celebrating their successes.
She had great love and appreciation for music which she passed onto her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Virginia found her greatest life's purpose, joy and satisfaction in helping and supporting her family whom she deeply treasured. Her unconditional love, support, humor, wit and never-ending patience will be greatly missed.
Virginia, lovingly referred to as, "Ma" is survived by her beloved children Salvatore Munafo (Penelope), Joseph A. Munafo Jr. (Susan), Mary Munafo-Shaver (Jamie) and Daniel Munafo (Raina). She is also survived by her adored grandchildren Angelina (Paul), Anna (Eric), Rafaella, Brenden, Anthony, Matthew, and Gabriella; step-grandchildren, Jason (Sarah), Ryan, Ashley (Kevin), Alexandra, Courtney (Jake) and Cameron; great-grandchildren Joseph, Nathan, Morgan, Charles, Oliver, Isabella, Aaron and Kirsten; step great-grandchildren, Addison, Brady, Landon, Scarlett and Jameson. She is also survived by her loving cousins, Bernice Honicki, Francis DeAngelo (Nancy), Annie Frese, Carmela "Babe" Narkiewicz and by the many friends who became part of our family through their love and care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on July 7, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Anthony's Church, 331 Seward Place, Schenectady NY 12305. Interment will follow the Mass at St. Cyril Cemetery in Rotterdam. There will be time to meet with the family prior to the Mass from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in the "Old Chapel" at St. Anthony's Church, 331 Seward Place, Schenectady, NY 12305.
