Vivien Bliss passed away on September 29, 2022 at Teresian House Nursing Home in Albany, New York.
She was born to Royal and Elma (Hill) Moore on December 13, 1928 in Calgary Alberta. Vivien was raised on her grandparents' farm near Sylvan Lake alongside her cousin Kevin and many Finnish relatives.
At the age of eighteen she began her long and varied teaching career in the grade 1 through 8 school in Nevus, Alberta. When she was 20, she took a teaching job at the Golfito American School in Golfito, Costa Rica. While in Costa Rica, she met and married Robert Bliss, an Army Air Corp veteran from Detroit, Michigan. In 1953, Bob and Vivien moved to Michigan where they raised their 2 daughters, Debbie and Jeni. Viv was active with the Girl Scouts while returning to college. She earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Eastern Michigan University. She became a US Citizen.
In 1981 Bob and Vivien moved to South Florida and she returned to teaching at the Lillie C. Evans Elementary school in Miami.
Viv retired in 1992 and remained in Florida playing bridge and travelling until 2013, when she moved to Albany, New York to be closer to family and watch her grandchildren grow. She took great pride in all of her grandchildren's interests and accomplishments. She continued to play bridge and enjoyed daily walks around the gardens of her lovely community at Avila. Her last year was difficult due to many ailments of advancing age, but she met every setback with a smile and good humor.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Robert F. Bliss.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Bliss Snider (Daniel Snider) of Oakton Virginia, Jennifer Bliss (Charles Quackenbush) of Slingerlands, New York, grandchildren Stephanie Snider of Arlington, Massachusetts, Thomas Quackenbush of Troy, New York, Emily Quackenbush of Denver, Colorado and William Quackenbush of Slingerlands, New York. Also her cousin, Kevin Mullen (Suzanne Duhamel) of Calgary, Alberta and her sister-in-law, Edith Bliss of Midland, Michigan.
A family memorial service will be held in Florida in the spring.
