Volker Scherer died on November 22, 2019, after a long battle with cancer; he was 69. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Germany, Volker was the son of the late Franz and Erna Scherer. Although raised from humble beginnings, he always loved to visit new places and had an earning for things bigger than life. To his friends, "Volk" was the life of the party and always was trying to make people laugh.
Volker is survived by his wife Anna Maria (Mesiti) Scherer, daughters Gretchen Senez (Robert) and stepchildren Tina Trigiani (Carlo) and Jennifer Hutton (Brett) and grandchildren Nathaniel Senez, Luca & Ella Trigiani and Raymond, Claire & Scott Hutton. Volker is also survived by his siblings Mary, Carl, Steven and Eric as well as many nieces and nephews.
Volker began his career as a skilled printer and after automation, he turned to work as a New York State Corrections Officer and was a member of the NYSCOPBA's Retiree Chapter. He was an avid sports fan, always cheering for the NY Giants and even the New York Yankees. Before his health issues made it impossible, he was an avid golfer with a great game, he cherished the sunny days when he could walk 18 holes and then enjoy a drink with his friends in the clubhouse. He more than anything, Volker loved spending time with this grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, on Friday, November 29, 2019 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at the chapel at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands following the calling hours. Entombment will immediately follow the service.
