W. Glenn Baldwin

d. October 20, 2007

BALLSTON SPA, NY – Wilbur Glenn Baldwin, 80, passed away at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany on October 20, 2007, ending his valiantly fought 27 year battle with heart disease. Glenn was born in Saybrook, PA on July 23, 1927, one of nine children of the late Lynn Clayton and Clara Lamb Baldwin. He grew up in his large family on various farms in Western NY then joined the Army at the end of World War II. He then earned his electrical engineering degree utilizing the GI bill. Glenn retired from Norton Co. in 1984 after completing 35 years in Research and Development. During his employment, Glenn also ran an independent garage and welding business from his Latham home until it was sold to the Albany County Airport in 1985, at which time he and his wife relocated to Countryside in Vero Beach, FL, returning to Upstate New York during the summer months. Glenn was very proud of his two sons, James (Paula) Baldwin of Guilderland and Mark (Maggie) Baldwin of Saratoga Springs and always looked forward to their phone calls and time spent with them. His grandson, Mark Jr., brought much laughter and happiness into his life and Glenn shared many "philosophy lessons" with him. Memories were enjoyed of his step-granddaughter, Samantha Rougie. The addition of three terrific step-grandchildren a year ago, Nicole, Mark and Sean Cross, expanded his happiness and his life was full of joy and contentment. Glenn found great pleasure making repairs for anyone who needed help and no matter what the task at hand (large or small), he approached it with a huge smile and a gracious and giving heart. His list of volunteer activities and contributions of time and energy to various fraternal orders, organizations and churches are too extensive to mention. The groups and individuals he helped over the years know first-hand of Glenn's giving heart, helpful nature, contagious smile and positive attitude. He also possessed a great sense of humor and in addition to time spent with family and harvesting crops from his garden, he enjoyed attending bluegrass festivals, square dancing, golf, seeing the country via travel trailer and playing pinochle and dominoes with friends. In addition to his wife and best friend, Margaret (Peg) Kittle Baldwin, and his sons, he is survived by six of his siblings: Walter (Jennie) of Brighton, CO, Bea (Lloyd) Johnston of North East, PA, Robert (Ruth) of Dunkirk, NY, Violet Racine of Leomonister, MA, Mary (Tony) Penna of Dorchester, NJ & Vero Beach, FL and Eleanor (Larry) Blue of Jamestown, NY. Predeceasing him were a brother John Baldwin and a sister, Margaret Sottile.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers or other charitable contributions, Glenn's wish was that his example be followed: please greet each day with a smile and offer help to someone in need. Think of him when you do!
