Wallace G. King, Sr., 81, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at St. Peters Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Wallace was born in Thessalon, Canada to the late Wallace and Bertha King. Wallace proudly served with the United States Navy during the Korean War and was on the USS Columbus. Wallace worked at several barber shops in the Capital District and also worked for the Albany Public Market. He was an active member with the Royal Order of Red Vest, the Hudson Volunteer Firefighters Association, the Royal Order of Funsters and with the Fuller Road Fire Department for over 39 years. Wallace enjoyed bowling, fishing, shooting darts, playing Bingo with his wife and mostly spending time with his family. In addition to his parents Wallace was predeceased by his sister, Eleanor Callham and his brother, Lornie "Ken" King.
Wallace is survived by his loving wife of over 54 years, Wilma (Harbinger) King; his beloved children Wallace (Denise) King Jr., of North Adams Mass., Charles (Sandra) King Sr. of Ravena, New York, Russell (Juliet) King of Colonie, New York; his cherished grandchildren Jamie, Charles Jr. (Samantha), Kristina, Amber, Samantha, Luke; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Devona Singer and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at St. Peters and the Colonie EMS for all of their care and compassion shown to Wallace.
Funeral Services will be Friday at 9am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie then to Roessleville Presbyterian Church, corner of Central Ave. and N. Elmhurst, Albany where the service will be at 10am. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Park, Schenectady. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Roessleville Presbyterian Church, 1 N. Elmhurst Street Albany or to the American Heart Association 440 New Karner Road, Colonie NY 12205 in Wallace's memory.
