Albany – Wallace R. Towle, 86, passed away Monday October 6, 2008 at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Mr. Towle was born in Ft. Hunter, NY the son of the late Henry and Carrie (Hopkins) Towle but grew up in Amsterdam. His family moved to Albany when he was a teen and he has called the Albany area, home ever since. He attended NYU where he received his Bachelor's degree and later earned his Master's in Mechanical Engineering from RPI. As a young man Mr. Towle worked for New York Central Railroad. He then served in the US Navy Air Corps as a flight instructor. After his dedicated years of service to his county he embarked on a career with Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. He worked at Knolls for more than thirty years retiring as Facilities Engineering Manager.
Wallace was a Charter Member and Exalted Ruler of Guilderland Elks #2480, a past Vice-President of New York State Elks, District Deputy of the Grand Lodge, and instrumental in starting many new lodges. He was also a Mason and a past Commander of the VFW. Wallace was an avid golfer, bowler and coin collector.
Wallace is survived by his wife of 63 years Elaine,they were married April 30, 1945. In addition to Elaine, he is survived by their children; Susan Conroy, Gary (Joyce) Towle, Sharon Warejko and Eileen (Larry) Gervais, his grandchildren; David, Timothy, Kelly, Larry, Daniel, Shannon, Alicia, Colleen, Tara, Lynda, Stephanie, Michael and Gabrielle, many great-grandchildren and his sister-in-law Anita Towle. He was predeceased by his brother Edmund.
The funeral service will be held Thursday 9:00 am from New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be Wednesday 4:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at St. Agnes Cemetery.
