Guilderland- Wallace C. Smith, 70, died on Tuesday, June 07, 2005 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Albany he was the son of the late William W. and Berdella Smith. Wallace served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Saufley DD-DE-465. After his return he went on to work as a fireman for the City of Albany Fire Dept. for 27 years retiring in 1987. He was an honorary member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club #6, Spitzie's Roamers, and an honorary member of the VFW Zaloga Post. Wallace was also a partner in the HO Custom Trains and Hobby Shop. Wallace was an avid collector of WWII memorabilia, model trains, and guns. He enjoyed Harley Davidson Motorcycles and singing karaoke. Wallace was an amazing and wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was loved by everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Wallace is predeceased by his infant brother Kent Smith.
Wallace is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years Sandra M. Smith, his two cherished children; Kimberly Smith DeMoor, and Richard Wallace Smith, and his two adored grandchildren; Madison S. Burrell, and Vincenzo S. DeMoor. He is also survived by his two brothers; Phillip Smith and wife Maria, and Wayne Smith and wife Nancy, sister-in-law Jeanise Sutherland and husband Jerry, brother-in-law Richard Smith and wife Anne, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church, 1500 Western Ave. Albany. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 Pm at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Interment will be in Westerlo Rural Cemetery, Westerlo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Lutheran Church, 1500 Western Ave. Albany, NY 12203 or to the Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Wallace C. Smith.
