Walter Best Jr, 87, departed his earthly home, suddenly Monday December 23, 2019 at his residence.
Born and raised in Altamont he was the son of the late Walter and Pauline Bezkorowajny. He graduated from the Class of 1951 Altamont High School.
Walter started his career within the Brick, Tile, Marble, Stone and Terrazzo Worker's Union traveling to outlining areas on projects. Within a few years later he was forced with a layoff. Within six days of this event he decided to start his own tile business and successfully worked until his age of 74. He was considered the" Master of his trade."
In retirement, Walter attended every Antique Car Show as possible. He loved these automobiles. His son and daughter made special trips with him to yearly Hershey and Carlisle Pa. events. While he basked in the sunny winters of Florida visiting his daughter Betty he continued these events also feasting at the strawberry festivals. Spring was he favorite time of year, he would start his own vegetable plants in his home to plant outside for the garden. He definitely had a "green thumb". Walter could cook... His favorite speciality was his Ukrainian Borcht which he kept the recipe secret.
Survivors include his daughter Diane (Gary) Pruskowski of Guilderland, Betty Best of Florida, Walter ( Kelly) Best of Altamont and Yvonne (James) Smith of Guilderland. Grandchildren Jamie, Loren, Adrian(Elaine), Tiffany and Mark. His sister in law, Helen Best of Schenectady. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude and his brothers Micheal and Eugene Best.
Burial service will be private.
