LOUDONVILLE - Walter Charles Yund, II passed away peacefully May 12, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
Walt was born July 19, 1922 in Amsterdam, NY, son of the late Louise Rothen Yund and Walter Charles Yund, a manufacturer and inventor. He grew up in Amsterdam with his brothers, the late Charles C. Yund and the late Theodore J. Yund. After moving with his widowed mother to Albany in 1937, his life long enthusiasm for sports grew as he played basketball with his brothers at CBA. He was later inducted into the CBA Hall of Fame, and was an All Albany Basketball Star as well. At 21 and a student at Siena College, he volunteered for World War II in the Navy where he served honorably, stateside. After graduating from Siena at the end of the war, he became a real estate developer. He then began 64 years of devoted married life with Eileen Hoffman Yund. He is a loving father of 5 children, and delighted to be the grandfather of seven and great grandfather of three. Walt passed on his love of his Catholic faith, as well as his great enjoyment of skiing. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, The Bishop's Development Fund, St. Gregory's School Board of Trustees, and caring for homebound parishioners in his parish, St. Pius X Church in Loudonville.
He is survived by his loving wife Eileen, and his children, Walter (Julie) Yund, III, Gary (Lynn) Yund, Eileen Yund Yancey of Pultneyville, NY, Maureen E. Yund of Boston, and Cheryl Yund Goodrich, PhD of Mountain View, CA.
The family sends a special thanks to St. Peter's Hospital ICU and our nurse, Dana Swift for outstanding and compassionate care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Loudonville. There will be no calling hours. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Amsterdam.
