GUILDERLAND – Walter N. Draisey, 88, died peacefully on Monday, July 23, 2012 after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family at the Stratton VA Medical Center.
Walter was born on December 7, 1923 in Troy and was the son of the late Walter N. and Angeline (Hare) Draisey. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant in the 27th Division, Company A 106th Infantry from 1939 to 1945.
Walter worked as a manager in the body shop for John D. Wendell Cadillac for over 35 years; he later worked for Prudential as an insurance adjuster for six years before retiring. He loved fishing, was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time with his devoted family.
Walter is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Louise M. (DeMare) Draisey; his loving children, Christine (Ray) Keith, Steven (Bonnie) Draisey, Anna (Jim) Draisey-Curtis, and Theresa Draisey; his cherished grandchildren, Bryan, Denise, Jennifer, Kyle, and Jamie; his cherished great-grandchildren, Bryce and Dylan.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff at the VA Hospital for the care and concern given to Walter.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Monday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie then to Holy Mother and Child Parish Church, 329 Lave Avenue, Lake Luzerne, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
