Walter James Pike

June 3, 1930 — August 18, 2021

Schenectady – Walter James Pike, 91, passed away August 18, 2021 at the Baptist Retirement Center in Scotia, NY, due to natural causes.
He was born in Schenectady, NY and was the son of the late Walter E. Pike and Lillian (Pfaffenbach) Pike also from Schenectady, NY.

Walter began his career working at the Alco Company, E.W. Thomas Movers, and retired from the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna. He finished his working career at KMart in Rotterdam Square Mall. Most will remember Walter (Pikey) as the man that talked to everyone and always had a big smile when he said hello. Walter served for many years in the Schonowe Volunteer Fire Company where he was Captain of the Fire Police. He also enjoyed his time as a Shriner and being a member of the Esperance Elks. He loved to travel to Aruba with his family and playing the slots at the casino, fishing, and going for rides in the car. But he really loved to watch the Yankees. They were HIS team!

Walter was preceded in death by his beloved Wife, Bettye Joyce Pike and his granddaughter, Wendy L. Bogusky Moore, both of Rotterdam, NY. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Doris Costello and Joyce Taber, and brothers, Richard Pike and Robert Pike Sr.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra {Michael} Bogusky of Rotterdam, NY and his son, Scott Lori} Pike of Glenville, NY. Walter is also survived by his sister, Betty Williams. But Walter's true joy was being Poppy to grandchildren, Shawn {Anna} Bogusky, Amber {Michael} Quinn, Rebeccah{Matthew} Gilmore, and great grandchildren, Briana Blesser and Cassandra Moore, Michael and Sabrina Bogusky, Carter and Reagan Quinn, and Gavin Gilmore. How he loved to spend time and visit with his grandchildren. Walter is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Donna Marx also holds a special place in our hearts for the love and support she has shown our Dad and family over the years.
We would like to thank the nurses and staff on N2 and Annika Board at the Baptist Retirement Center for the kindness and care that was given to Walter. It is greatly appreciated.
