Latham- Walter E. Rawlings, 91, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017. He was the son of the late Albert E. and Gladys E. (Palmer) Rawlings. Walter is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Rita M. Rawlings.
Walter was educated in the Albany Public School System and was a graduate of the former Philip Schuyler High School and Albany Business College, earning a degree in accounting. Walter was a dedicated employee of the United States Post Office where he worked as an accountant until his retirement. One of Walter's many hobbies was collecting stamps, a passion that started at age 12. Walter also enjoyed model railroading, fishing, and gardening. He will be deeply missed by his many friends at Eddy Village Green in Cohoes, where he resided. His lovable character and sense of humor made him endearing to all.
In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by his stepchildren, Kenneth Nellis (Sheila) of Latham, Virginia Nellis (Anne) of Brattleboro, and Janet Clayton (Douglas) of Clifton Park. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Bruce Nellis, Rebekah Nellis-Kennedy, Sarah Small, Anne Nellis, and Brian Clayton as well as three great grandchildren. Walter leaves behind his sister, Dolores DeSano.
Walter is predeceased by his siblings, Marion, Gladys, Albert, and Francis.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY 12189. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 28, 2017 at 10:00am at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 510 Albany Shaker Road, Loudonville, NY 12211. Interment will be private and held at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
