ALBANY - Walter Lee Ross, 69, husband of the late Frances Lumpkin Ross of Albany, NY, passed away with his family by his side on Friday, August 19, 2022, at St. Peter's Hospital.
Born December 31, 1952, in Albany, NY, he was the son of James and Katherine Ross. Walter attended Albany Public Schools. He then worked as a cook for New York State, then went on to work for Matthew Bender. He later worked for the Center of Disability Services where he retired in 2014.
He enjoyed fishing with his dad, bowling and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He was one of the grill masters of the family. He played the base guitar in a band he formed. He was one of the founders of a fashion show called the Sophisticated Gents.
He is survived by two daughters Shirrie Chajon (Eddi), Jeneva Ross (Nate), of Albany, NY; 10 grandchildren, Ida-Jah, Nae-Quan, YaMeena, Atia, Natalya, Miguel, Nahla "Jones", Deondre, Deontay and Jennah. One great grandson Hakeem. He is also survived by 2 brothers William of Durham, NC and Pernell (Yolanda) of Indianapolis, IN, 5 sisters, Carolyn, Cynthia, Yvonne of Albany, NY, Yolonda of Indianapolis, IN and Tenisia Ross Taylor (Jerome) of Atlanta, GA; In-laws, Doretha (Jerry) Tolliver, David Lumpkin, Jr, Sylvester Lumpkin, Jarita (Lance) Ray; a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. One Aunt, Mary Ross (Benton Harbor, MI). One Goddaughter Marvette Hooks. A host of cousins as well as special cousins Bob Lanier, Alvin Lanier and Rodney Freeman. His beloved cat, Chance.
In addition to his wife Frances, he was predeceased by his sister, Linda A Ross, Niece Roberta (Jeannie) Fadalla and Mandy Ross.
Friends may call, Friday August 26, 2022, 10:00AM - 11:00AM, services at 11:00 at New Comer Cremations and Funerals -181 Troy-Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Schenectady, NY.
