ALBANY – Wendy Ann, Fitzgerald, 55, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Glens Falls on May 13, 1968.
Wendy was a graduate of Barbizon Modeling School, and also attended Guilderland High School. At age 15, Wendy contracted encephalitis and her life changed to one of special needs.
The Center for Disability Day program where she attended regularly, is where she earned her high school diploma.
Her many interests included cooking, fashion, gardening, and animals, especially dogs. She had a special love for Coco Bean and Romy attentive terriers and loyal companions.
Every spring she had a backyard garden, and enjoyed checking on the plant growth every day. She also loved to bake and cook, discovering recipes from the cooking channel. She was happy to sit in the kitchen watching her mother cook and bake offering friendly advice.
Wendy had a sweet nature and beautiful expressive greenish eyes. Even though she couldn't speak she was still able to communicate her wishes with her eyes or hand gestures. On the other hand, if she wanted to convey a "no" it was clearly understood.
Christmas was her favorite holiday. In 2014 she was re-baptized at her request and had a deep love of Christ. She watched on line services every Sunday. Afterwards, she would scratch a lottery ticket. Any winnings, she would put 10% aside to donate to the church.
Throughout the years Wendy had a team of nurses who became her extended family. One particularly devoted nurse, Cindy Horowitz was with Wendy for 36 years and was like a loving sister. More recent caregivers, Donna, Kathy, Virginia, and Doreen were as equally devoted.
Wendy was predeceased by her father, Terry Fitzgerald; her stepfather, Lawrence Baker; her sister Jill Fitzgerald and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
She is survived by her mother, Alice J. Baker; her aunt, Leslie Kaplan and 2 cousins.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with a celebration of life to immediately follow at 12:00 pm on Monday, January 22, 2024 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment will be private.
Special thanks to the attentive and supportive care from the staff at Home Medical Associates and the Dialysis Center Inc. in Albany.
