Willard E. Van Wie

GUILDERLAND – Willard E. Van Wie, 90, of Guilderland, passed away on Tuesday February 12, 2008 at St. Peters Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born in Rensselaer and has resided in Guilderland for over fifty years. Willard was a distinguished US Army veteran having served as a Staff Sergeant in the Pacific Theatre with the 27th Division, Company A. He was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient. Willard worked as an assembler at the Watervliet Arsenal for many years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the 27th Division Association, Colonie Elks 2192, VFW Post 8692, DAV #88 and American Legion Post 1450. He enjoyed tending to his garden, wood working and oil painting.
He was predeceased by his wife Margaret Weaver Van Wie and his son Gary Van Wie. Willard is the beloved father of Russell Van Wie, David Van Wie and Cheryl Van Wie. He is the grandfather of Christine Lopukhin, Janell Schwanke, Skylar Van Wie and the late David Van Wie. Great grandfather of David & Alexie Lopukhin.
Funeral services will be Friday evening at 7:00 at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will precede the service on Friday from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorys Garden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans , 113 Holland Ave Albany NY 12208 in memory of Willard E. Van Wie.
