BALLSTON SPA – William A. Chaplin, Sr., 82, of Ballston Spa and Slingerlands, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at the VA Hospital in Albany.
William was born on May 2, 1924 in Springfield, MA and was the son of the late James H. and Ocenia Baker Chaplin. He served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII, attaining the rank of Corporal.
William worked at General Electric as a welder for 25 years, then he went to work as a welding inspector for Con Dec for 15 years and then for 12 years he worked at Clifton Park Center in security. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling and spending time with his family.
William is survived by his wife, Meryl; his son, William A. Jr.; his step children, Sage, Beth, Sara and Russell; 14 step grandchildren; his sisters, Ivy, Carol and Bessie and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife of 54 years, Virginia Lee; his son, James and his brother, Gilbert.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment will follow at Memory's Garden, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
