William J. Ball Jr.

Watervliet - William J. Ball Jr. 76, passed away suddenly on December 12, 2023. Born on April 12, 1947, in Miami Florida to the late William and Jean (Treder) Ball.


Bill grew up in Scotia and graduated from Bishop Gibbons High School, where he played on the football and baseball teams. He then earned his Bachelor's Degree from Bellarmine College, in Louisville, Kentucky.


Following graduation he began his successful career with the Schenectady County Department of Social Services, where he rose to, and retired from the position of Director of Child Support.


Outside of the working world Bill was totally passionate about the world of sports. He was an avid fan and supporter of the New York Yankees, football Giants, and Rangers hockey team. As an adult he also played in golf leagues and recreational softball.


In addition, from an early age Bill was fascinated with the world of thoroughbred horse racing. This was a lifetime passion, starting with regular summertime visitations to the Saratoga Race Track, and in later life traveling the country to attend many of the major thoroughbred stakes races including the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes and Breeder's Cup events.


Bill made friends easily, had an outsized personality and loved to socialize. He will undoubtedly be remembered, and missed by most all who got to know him.


He leaves behind his brother Timothy (Anne) Ball. Nephews , Daniel and Aaron Ball.
