GUILDERLAND-William R. Barthel passed away at home on March 28, 2017.
He was born in Brooklyn on July 17, 1938. Graduated Valedictorian from N.Y. Metropolitan High School where he received his diploma in Maritime Trades. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Husson College in Maine.
Bill worked at General Electric from 1961 – 1998 as a Pricing Coordinator-Power Systems; Mgr. – Steam Turbine Generator Marketing. After retirement, Bill worked part time as a book keeper for eight years.
He enjoyed winters in Myrtle Beach with his wife and family.
He has dedicated the past 25 years as a volunteer for the Residents Encounter Christ (Prison Ministry). He also volunteered for the Welcome Table and The Albany Catholic Diocese Remarriage Program. He was always willing to help in his parish where ever needed.
Bill enjoyed playing golf with friends and keeping up with latest in technology. He loved helping people in need, but most of all he loved spending time with his loving family and REC team members.
He is survived by his loving wife, Paula (Powers); daughter Colleen, son Tom; grandsons, Billy and Austin; granddaughter Samantha and great grandson, Carter; sister Muriel Becht ; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Mike Herrick) and Ann Powers (Dave Clark) and his many loving nieces and nephews and also grand nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 11:00am at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Avenue, Albany, NY. Calling hours will be held at the church from 9-11 prior to the Mass.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
