William "Bill" R. McDonald

William McDonald, 71, passed away peacefully in his home on December 1, 2024. surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born in Norfolk, VA on August 3, 1953, to the late William and Shirley McDonald

He joined the Army after high-school and was also a member of the National Guard. He retired as an over the road tractor trailer driver after many years.

Bill was also affectionately known as “MacGyver” by his family and friends for his ability to fix or repair anything. He enjoyed traveling, tinkering with his model cars, and hanging out in his backyard pool with friends and family.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Scully.

He is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Patricia McDonald; daughter, Heather Osterhout; son, Brian McDonald (Jessicca); grandchild, Gara Osterhout; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Bill will also be missed by his two feline fur babies, Leo and Jordie.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 1:30PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill’s name to the American Cancer Society.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Community Hospice.
