William Campbell

William “Bill” Campbell, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at home in Colonie, NY, on October 15, 2024, after a short battle with lung cancer. He was born on October 23, 1947, in Troy, New York, to the late Walter Sr and Elizabeth Campbell. Bill served his country honorably in the Air Force, a chapter of his life that shaped his character and commitment to those he loved.

Bill retired from the DMV, where his kindness and patience made a lasting impression on countless individuals who came through the doors. His warm demeanor and eagerness to help others were hallmarks of his character throughout his life.

In his leisure time, Bill found happiness in playing golf, a sport that brought him both relaxation and camaraderie with friends. A passionate sports fan, he enjoyed watching Dolphins football and rooting for the Dodgers baseball team, treasuring the moments spent with family and friends discussing the games and sharing stories.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Walter “Butch” Campbell, who will be waiting for him on the other side.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife Charlene, daughter Meaghan, and stepson Jeff, who will carry his spirit and love with them in their hearts. He is also survived by his sister Jean (George) Thompson, brother Carl Campbell, sister in law Debbie (Daniel) Casais, brother in law Jeffrey (Beverly) Staats, brother in law Charles Staats. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Jamie Lyn Russell (David), Barry Thompson (Keri), Scott Thompson, Ryan Thompson, Heather Staats-Frechling (Dan), Alex Schneider (Marcia), Grant Schneider, great nieces and nephews Brooklyn and Easton Russell, Mia (Thomas) Young, Garrett Thompson and Axel Schneider and many cousins and good friends. 

A visitation to honor Bill’s life will take place on October 21, 2024, from 4 PM to 6:30 PM, followed by a memorial service at 6:30 PM, both held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals in Colonie, NY.

While Bill may have departed from our physical world, his legacy will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His gentle spirit, infectious smile, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
