Albany- William J. Cartwright, Jr., 74, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 30, 2018. Born on July 29, 1944 in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late William J. and Julia (Hackett) Cartwright, Sr. Bill was a lifelong Albany resident. He graduated from Cardinal McCloskey High School and then earned an associate's degree. He then began his career with Niagara Mohawk where he was a supervisor in the tax department for many years. Bill was a loving and devoted family man. He was married to his high school sweetheart JoAnn for over 50 years. She predeceased him in 2017. Bill loved to spend time with his family and friends, especially at get-togethers and parties. He was an avid reader, loved the history of Albany and camping with his friends. Bill was loved by all who knew him. He touched many lives, he will be missed by all.
Bill is survived by his sons: Bryan (Joey Lynn), Jason (Ann) and Jarrett (Diana); grandchildren: Jordan, Paige, Ava, Madelyn, Jack, Mitchell, Natalie, Alyssa and Layla; he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents and his loving wife, Bill was predeceased by his siblings: Thomas Cartwright and Jill Comtois.
The family would like to give a special "THANK YOU" to the staff of the Eddy Village Green, especially House 1.
Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday, September 7 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, September 8 at The Parish of Mater Christi, 35 Hurst Ave, Albany, NY 12208.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill's name to Eddy Village Green Elder Enrichment Fund, 421 Columbia Street, Cohoes, NY 12047.
