Our beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, affectionately known to family and friends as "Keith", was called from labor to rest on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, surrounded by the warmth of his family; and with Blessed Quietness, accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. To God Be the Absolute Glory.
Born May 21, 1947, the eldest of six to the late William "Dickey" Dare and the late Mother Mary "Shorty" {Dare} Ward in Albany, NY, Keith was raised with his siblings in the south end. Educated in the Albany Public School System and devoutly reared in Wilborn Temple, he received early spiritual edification dutifully attending Sunday school, Sunday services with family and participating in other junior auspices. As a young man, Keith was very composed and resolved while contently growing into his role as a protector. Recognized for his poignant partiality to exceptional style (and thanks to his mother), Keith was notably a first teen to have a charge account at the distinguished Snappy's Men's Shop on downtown Pearl Street. While at Schuyler High School, he was an astute student and along with friend and teammate, the late Calvin Nicholson; Keith lettered in varsity basketball for the Falcons, gaining scholarship interests while still a junior. He played collegiately at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY.
Through his evolution, like so many of his generation, Keith believed he determined the order of his steps, laying brick after brick, with each path leading in different directions. Keith viewed life using an extrinsic lens and life became the canvas that illustrated those visions. He was the author of his own story and though conditions may not have always aligned with God's furthest plan, he forged ahead in his spirit. Keith competed with emotional unsoundness, yet, through the many storms of indecision, he faced the world on the steadfast prayer of his family and the Grace and Mercy of God.
Welcomed into the Kingdom of Glory by his father and mother, brothers Bruce and Leonard Dare, maternal grandmother Arment Young, paternal grandparents Emma Sattisfield and Benson Dare; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Keith also bequeathed the riches of his memory to his dear son Aaron Dare, grandsons Malik and Mekai Dare of all of Albany, NY; devoted sisters Carol (William) Beauchamp, of Atlanta, GA, Valerie "Cookie" and Virginia "Jenny" Dare of Albany, NY; in addition to a special-sister in Sherri Griffith of Albany, NY; adoring nieces and nephews: Tina Dare-Harris, Michelle (James) Morrison, Latisha (Mark) Miller, Andre and Leonard Ellis, Keith Dare, Tishone Mallory, each of Albany, NY, Gloria and Karin Johnson of Michigan, Edie Sutton and V. Shakim Dare both of Georgia; maternal aunts and uncles Eula Anderson, Evelyn Alvis and Herbert (Lois) Sanders, of Indianapolis, IN; inclusive of a host of more great nieces and nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY on Thursday March 7, 2019 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Graceland Cemetery, Albany, New York.
