ORLANDO, FLA – William F. Burke, 83, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014 peacefully with his family by his side. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Richard and Anna (Provost) Burke.
William served his country and was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He was a firefighter for the Albany Fire Department for 27 years, retiring in 1987. He loved sports, and was a dedicated fan to the New York Mets, New York Giants and the Orlando Magic. William looked forward to returning every year to the Capital District for horseracing season.
Along with his parents, William was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Anna Burke, and sister-in-law Joanne Burke.
He will be missed dearly by his children Mike (Mary), Nancy, Jerry (Adele) and John; his brother Richard; grandchildren Shawna, Shane, Noah, Christopher, Michelle, Michael, Annmarie, Lisamarie and Alyssa; four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 am at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
