COLONIE – William "Willy" F. Parsons, 93, a long time Colonie resident, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2005.
William was born on September 14, 1911 in Saratoga Springs and was the son of the late Edward D. and Lois A. Parsons. He worked as a dispatcher for Niagara Mohawk for 46 years before retiring in 1979.
William was a member of St. Clare's Church for the past 17 years, prior to that he was a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church; member of the Sunset Senior Bowling League; HBQ Kuhn Senior Center; and a former member of the Masons. In addition to bowling he enjoyed square dancing, watching baseball and in his younger years, playing golf. He played semi-pro for the Saratoga Athletic Club and in 1936 he was offered a spot as a pitcher for the New York Yankees.
William is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Ida Caron Parsons; his daughter, Sheila L. Holmes; his son, Bruce W. Parsons, both of Hudson Falls; his step-daughter, Celeste (Steve) Bullis of Waterford; his sons-in-law, Robert Daly of Florida and Donald Holmes of Ft. Ann; 22 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Bernadine P. Parsons and three daughters, Pauline F. Smith, Marilyn L. Chance and Beverly J. Daly.
Calling hours will be at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Clare's Church. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in Colonie.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211 in memory of William F. Parsons.
