SCHENECTADY – William F. Wood, Jr., 90, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013 after a brief illness. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late William F. and Myrtle (Stearn) Wood, Sr.
Bill served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. After being honorably discharged, he worked as an electrician through the IBEW in both New York and California until retirement. Bill enjoyed fishing, bowling and traveling when he had the time. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Saratoga Springs.
Along with his parents, Bill was predeceased by his siblings, Robert S. Wood and Francis E. Wood.
He is survived by his longtime friend, Millie Kielmann of Schenectady; children William Allen (June) Wood of Windsor, MO, Susan E. Buckman of Troy and Karen Ann Wood of Memphis, TN; step-children Mark ( Shirley) Kielman of Ithaca and Janet Freitag of New Mexico; brothers George E. Wood of California and Richard A. Wood of Schenectady; grandchildren Samantha Nunn of Missouri , R. Shane Buckman of Waterford, Melissa Dufour of Florida, and Grace Moore of Tennessee; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie. In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice in Bill's name.
