Schenectady - William G. Ganter, 82, passed away peacefully Thursday April 10, 2008 at Ellis Hospital.
William was born in Hurst, IL the son of the late Joseph and Nellie (Harrison) Ganter. Bill served his country faithfully in the US Army Air Corps, joining in 1943. He served as a co-pilot, bombardier and navigator until the end of the war and remained in the reserves and retired in 1966. In his business life, Bill served the finance industry with distinction for 35 years. He held most of the jobs in banking and retired as the First Vice-President of Bankers Trust in Albany. Bill retired from Bankers Trust in 1984 and then became the General Manager of Shaker Ridge Country Club.
Bill was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America and a long time member of the McKnownville United Methodist Church. He was a member of New York State Bankers' Association, Chamber of Commerce, American Institute of Banking, Central Credit Bureau, Chairman of the Board of Credit Counseling Service of the Capital Region and on the Advisory Board of the American Bankers Association.
Bill is survived by Isabelle White, whom he wed Christmas Eve 1943 and have been happily married ever since, his daughters; JoEllen (Louis) Culbertson and Pamela (Paul) Seamans, grandchildren; Andrew (Christy) Culbertson, Sean (Jami) Ganter, Carrie (David) Woodward, Jody (Michael) Richardson and Joshua Seamans, six great-grandchildren, siblings; Lyle Ganter, Norma Jean DeGerlia and Linda Hart. He was predeceased by his son Larry and his brother Victor.
The funeral service will be held 1:00pm Thursday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.). Calling hours are Wednesday 4:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Interment at Memory's Garden Cemetery.
