COLONIE – William M. Glasbrener, 72, of Colonie, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Charles M. and Mary Glassbrenner. Bill received his bachelor's degree from Siena College and a Master's Degree from both the College of St. Rose and the State University at Albany. He served in the U.S. Army during the 1960's. Mr. Glasbrener first worked as a manager for Grand Union from 1958 through 1967. He was a teacher for the Rensselaer City School District from 1967 to 1972, then served as the middle school principal from 1972 to 1992 and the elementary school principal from 1992 to 1996 when he retired. He was fondly known to his students as "Mr. G." Bill is the beloved husband of 45 years to Martha (Blasch) Glasbrener. He is the devoted father of Deborah Marroitt and her husband, Robert of Colonie, Michael Glasbrener and his wife, Carla of Santa Rosa, CA and James Glasbrener and his wife, Alisha of Colonie. He is the cherished grandfather of Cory, Ryan and Megan Marriott, Rebecca, Benjamin and Nicolas Glasbrener, William and Dillon Glasbrener and Robert Marriott. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Glassbrenner. Bill's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Community Hospice of Albany for all of the love and care given to him during his illness.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to St. Francis De Sales Church, 1 Maria Drive at 11:00 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 or St. Peter's Hospital Foundation, 319 South Manning Blvd., Suite 309, Albany, NY 12208 in memory of William M. Glasbrener.
