SCHENECTADY – William T. "GAT" Gleason, 88, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2023 at Ellis Hospital.
William was born and educated in Amsterdam, a son of the late William and Regina (Zawicki) Gleason.
He was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Navy.
Following the military, he was employed for many years with General Electric, retiring in 1995.
William was a great award-winning cartoonist and folk artist working under the pseudonym, "Mr. Moses" winning several regional and national competitions.
He also loved fishing and visiting the Jersey shore.
William was the best husband, father, papa anyone could ask for. He left us many fond memories that we will cherish forever.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Diane Gleason; his children, Billy (Denise) Gleason, Darlene (Edward) Corless, George Wicks and Angel Parks; his grandchildren, Tyler Gleason, Olivia and Grace Corless, and Jeff (Jordan) Wicks; his siblings, Lestra Vertucci, Joey (Irene) Sarline and Ron (Carol) Sarline; his Uncle Don Gleason and sister-in-law, Carol Krill; his longtime friend, John (Arlene) Galligan and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses on Wing A-6, especially Ashley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St, Schenectady, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-9959.
