TROY – William J. Gormley returned to the loving arms of the Lord Almighty on October 4, 2024. William, affectionately known as ‘Bill’ or ‘Billy’, was born in Jersey City, New Jersey and peacefully passed at the age of 84. William proudly served the United States Air Force while stationed at Travis Air Force Base and remained a proud veteran who often donated to veteran and religious organizations.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife Gladys, his stepdaughter Marlena, and beloved granddaughter Luna, who shares his vibrant red hair and love of baseball. William leaves behind his younger brother Robert Gormley, his sister in-law, three nieces and their respective families.
William was a hardworking man who celebrated his proud Irish heritage and will be remembered for his love of the Yankees, his commitment to church, a contagious laugh and an impeccable wardrobe. William’s talents included his legendary chocolate chip recipe, and often showcased his musical talents in blowing of the shofar during family and religious events. William had a love of classic cars and was a wonderful storyteller, often recounting stories of his youth that involved racing cars.
William enjoyed spending time at home, remaining active well after his retirement, and cherished the time he spent with his immediate family, especially gatherings around the holidays.
Visitation will be held from 11:00am to 12:00pm with a memorial service to immediately follow at 12:00pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
