William H. Smith, Jr.

WESTMERE – William H. Smith, Jr., 84, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2012 at home after a long illness. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late William H., Sr. and Frances (McNamara) Smith.
Bill served in the United States Navy. He worked for General Electric for three years and then went on to manage several service stations. He owned a number of businesses including an ice cream parlor, Turnpike Motel and a pressure washing business. Bill was also employed with Bob Howard and Roberts Real Estate offices. He retired twelve years ago. In his free time, Bill enjoyed travelling, boating and fishing.
Along with his parents, Bill was predeceased by his first wife, Eileen (Wojcik) Smith; son Kevin Smith and sister Frances Metzger and brother-in-law Larry Metzger.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Patricia (Wever) Smith; children William H. (Cynthia) Smith, III of Bradenton, FL and Linda (David) Dills of Indian Trials, NC; step-children Ernest R. (Catherine) Mallette of Lakeland, FL, Thomas R. (Suellen) Mallette of Duanesburg and Laura (Larry) Trombley of Rotterdam; sister Ruth (Harry) Koch of Knox; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will precede the service from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 in Bill's name.
