William J. Amanatides, 62, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 12, 2013 at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. He was born on Jan. 26, 1951 in Albany, NY to the late John and Harriet Amanatides. He was a devout Christian and member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, acting as an altar boy as a child. He had a heart of gold, and he was a great human being who was loved by all that came in contact with him and will be dearly missed.
William was an accomplished drummer, playing in many bands over the years. He always maintained his integrity and faith throughout his life. He had a great sense of humor and a heartfelt laugh that would warm your heart. His love for his family and friends was unsurpassed especially his love for his dear nieces Dana and Crystal.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother James and his sister Victoria Amanatides.
He is survived by his four brothers, George, Paul, Dennis and Larry (Laura Haber) Amanatides. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousin, close friends, his beloved Aunt Helen (Uncle Ray) and sister-in-laws Deborah Amanatides and Jan Chapman.
The family would like to thank William's cherished niece, Dana Chapman-Amanatides and his beloved brother Larry Amanatides for all of their love and devotion.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to any Trust Co. Bank c/o Paul Amanatides to help offset funeral costs.
There will be a memorial service at St. Nicolas Greek Orthodox Church, 621 First Colonial Rd., Virginia Beach, Virginia August 4, 2013 at 11 am.
Funeral service for William will be Monday, Jul 22, 2013 at 10:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie and then to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home, there will be a Trisagion Service at 4:30 pm. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.
