CLIFTON PARK – William J. Shea, 90, formerly of New City, passed away on Wednesday September 04, 2013 in Schenectady, NY. He was born in Suffern and was the son of the late William and Veronica Butler Shea.
Bill served in the US Navy during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. As a member of the Seabees, he was part of the Tokyo Bay Occupation Force (Task Force 31) that captured the Japanese Battleship Nagato in Tokyo Bay, symbolizing the unconditional and complete surrender of the Japanese Navy. Bill was also a longtime Sergeant with the Rockland County Sheriff's Office and was one of the original ten deputies hired to begin the Patrol Division in 1966. Bill was also an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan and his brothers Thomas and Patrick. He is the father of William (Lynne) Shea of Clifton Park and Michael (Patricia) Shea of Highland Mills. He is the brother of David and Jeremiah Shea. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren and several nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside services on Monday morning, September 16, at 11:00 at Fred Loescher Veterans Cemetery, New Hempstead.
