MARLBOROUGH, CT.- William J. Ward II, 93, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2009 at the Marlborough Healthcare Center in Marlborough, Connecticut.
Born and raised in Albany, he was the son of the late William J and Cora (Stewart) Ward of Menands. William was educated in the Albany Public School system, graduated from Albany High School, and was a resident in the Albany area for over 90 years. William was a US Army Veteran of the World War II era having served on various tours of duty from 1942 to 1945 in England, North Africa, and Italy. For many years, William was employed as a driver for Albany's United Traction Company and he also drove part-time for the South Colonie School District. William was predeceased in 2003 by his beloved wife of 57 years, Annette M. (Campagna) Ward. William and Annette lived in the Colonie area for over 50 years and enjoyed the winter months together at the Down Yonder Village in Largo, Florida for almost 30 of those years. William enjoyed fishing, boating, and fixing almost anything, but he especially loved the sport of golfing - he was particularly proud of his several hole-in-one achievements over the years in Largo and Colonie.
William is survived by his son, William J. Ward III, and his daughter-in-law Nancy (DePiano) Ward, both of Marlborough, CT; two granddaughters, Barbara Ward of Ivoryton, CT, and Cheryl (Ward) Rearick and her husband Daniel of Hebron, CT, as well as three great-grandchildren, Sean Apostalon of Ivoryton, CT and Evan and Samantha Rearick of Hebron, CT He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Lee Campagna, of Albany, NY and many nieces and nephews in the Albany area.
Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon at 12:30 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 11:30 to 12:30 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorys Garden.
