LATHAM – William J. West, 83, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 7, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Cohoes, he was the son of the late Norman and Bernadette West. Bill lived in Latham since 1958. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Fairbanks, AK where he started the first office machine repair shop. Bill then worked for over thirty years at Ben Roth Typewriters in Albany. His passion was vegetable gardening and his family affectionately referred to him as the "Tomato King". He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his loving family.
Bill is the beloved husband of 62 years to Lucille (Heins) West. He is the devoted father of Douglas (Norma) West of Colonie, David (Debbie) West of Loudonville, Deborah (Rich) West-Arnot of Cooperstown and Dennis West of Cortland. Bill is the cherished grandfather of Corey, Steven, Jason, Heather, Jennifer, Ashley, Richard and Evan. Also surviving are his loving great-grandchildren, Justin and Benton.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the charity of one's choice in memory of William J. West.
