ALBANY – William J. White, 91, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany with his loving niece Mary at his side.
Born in Dedham, Mass. on July 26, 1921, William was the son of the late Henry and Sophie (Kaminski) Woitkiewicz.
Bill was a retired Colonel with the US Air Force where he flew B29's, B52's and B58's. He was also the Commander of Wheeler AFB in Hawaii. Bill was a compassionate man and his love of children was demonstrated by creating a playground area and providing food and refreshments for the local Korean Orphans while a Commander at Kwon Ju AFB in Korea. He also served at the Strategic Air Command from July 1972 to April 1974 and retired from there on May 1, 1974.
Bill enjoyed gardening and cultivating irises and loved his canine companion a Kerry Blue Terrier named Blue.
Bill is survived by his sister, Sophie Bryett of Albany; his nieces, Mary Laramie, RN of Albany and Natalie Bartlett of Florida, and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 18 years, Frances Regina (Coffey) White, whom he married on September 7, 1957. He was also predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie on Thursday, August 2, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. where the parish family of Christ the King Church will gather at 5 p.m. for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome.
Entombment will be in Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, LI, NY on Friday, August 3, 2012.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church.
