William Paul Jones

December 31, 1934 — April 13, 2024

William "Bill" Paul Jones, 89 went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ suddenly on Saturday evening, April 13, 2024. Bill graduated to glory after living a long and blessed life on this earth.

Born on December 31, 1934 to John and Angelina Jones, Bill exemplified a life of service to his family, friends, and community. Bill adored his wife, Betty, and they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this July. He loved dancing with her, and although they cut up the floor at many an event, he would just pull her close to have a private moment dancing in the comfort of their home. His dedication to her exemplified the design that God intended for marriage. Bill was a dedicated family man. He could be counted on in any capacity to support his three daughters and their families, whom he also adored. He was an example of integrity for his three children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as his sons-in-law, granddaughter-in-law, grandsons-in-law, nieces and nephews. His dedication to always be there for his family was unmatched. "PopPop" never missed a game, competition, milestone or academic ceremony and many of the kids' friends also admired him, calling him "PopPop" instead of Mr. Jones. Bill enjoyed trips to the ocean with family and could always be counted on for the traditional picture in front of Nubble Light in York, Maine. When he wasn't traveling to support his family, Bill enjoyed watching professional sports. He was a steadfast Giants, Yankees, and Rangers Fan. He also enjoyed college football and basketball. Bill loved to laugh at clean humor. He would tell the same jokes over and over and was often found laughing at the punchline before he could deliver it. He spent the majority of his working years at Tobin Packing Company in West Albany, New York. He made many lifelong friends at "the plant" and bowled, played softball, shot horseshoes and jarts, and enjoyed good food at the annual clambakes. His friends from Tobin's enjoyed his singing throughout the day, and they would often call him "Broadway Bill." True to form, Bill went on to join the Watervliet Canoneers, proudly singing and entertaining seniors in area senior housing facilities. When the packing company closed, Bill worked in many capacities to provide for his family. In addition to being a dedicated family man, friend, and hard worker, Bill was a man of faith. He served in the capacity of Eucharistic minister, lay reader, youth leader and choir member during traditional services. He also proudly served his country in the US Naval Reserves. Bill could always be counted on by extended family, friends, and his community to serve in any capacity needed. He was a humble man who put the needs of others above his own, reflecting the character and love of Jesus Christ to everyone he met. Most importantly, Bill recognized his own need for a Savior, and his family is confident that upon returning home, he was welcomed by our Lord with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Betty (Halstead) Jones and his three daughters, Kathy (Greg) Miller, Sandy (Mark) Hickey, and Patty (Sonny) Pinkham. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kristen Miceli, Tim (Monica) Miller, Katy (Brendan) Lynch, and Amy Pinkham (Jared Moyer); his great-grandchildren, Michael, Anthony, Angelia, Kayleigh, Brady, Nora and Morgan; his sister-in-law Patty Smith and nephew Jerry (Diane) Fernandez as well as many nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces and extended cousins. In addition to his loving family, Bill is also survived by lifelong friends, Vern and Barbara Richburg, Richard Carty and Florence Muzio, as well as many brothers and sisters in Christ.

Bill is predeceased by his parents, John and Angelina Jones, his sister and brother-in-law, Jean (Eugene) Hammont, and his brother and sisters-in-law, Jack (Dorothy, Pat) Jones and nephew, Robert (Jones). He is also predeceased by his parents-in-law, Blanche and Frank Halstead, his brother-in-law Frank Halstead, and his niece, Maria Hunter as well as many other beloved aunts, uncles and cousins welcoming him home to glory.
