ALBANY, NY – William Katchmar, 90, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2010. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Paul and Helen Katchmar. Bill graduated from Troy High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving his country in North Africa, during World War II. He worked for A. T. & T. and retired after over thirty five years of service. Mr. Katchmar was a talented handyman and enjoyed "inventing" new ideas. Bill was the beloved husband of the late Frances (Pompa) Katchmar. He is the devoted father of Ronald W. Katchmar of Cohoes and Grace Katchmar and her fiancé, Jay Mason of Westerlo. He is the cherished grandfather of Jeannine and Victoria Katchmar and Hailey and Tristan Mason. Also surviving is his daughter-in-law, Maria Katchmar as well as several nieces and nephews. Bill's family would like to thank the staff of Eddy Village Green, Building #24 and the hospice staff for all of the care and support they gave to him during his stay.
Funeral services will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). A calling hour will precede the service from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Rensselaer, 295 Valley View Boulevard, Rensselaer, NY 12144 in memory of William Katchmar.
