COLONIE - Krug, William A Sr. age 87 of Colonie, NY passed away on January 20th at home with his loving family by his side. Born in Albany on October 21, 1935, he was the oldest son of John and Alice Krug.
Bill owned and operated Krug Farms in West Albany, a small family farm started by his father that he grew into a large family-run business. A lifetime labor of love, even after handing the reins over to his sons many years ago, he worked there every day until his passing.
After graduating high school (Schuyler 1953), he was an innovator in the Capital Region agriculture community and he helped many area farmers improve their skills to grow better crops. He belonged to numerous regional agricultural-related organizations, and his individual developments and accomplishments are many. Although humble about them, he took great satisfaction in the help he gave others. Bill was also a Teamster, driving dump trucks and gas tanker semis for many years, having an accident-free career.
Bill and his wife Beverly exemplified "work hard, play harder" and took over 90 cruises, including several on the QE2. He was a 63-year life member of the West Albany Volunteer Fire Company #1 and a member of the American Legion Joseph E. Zaloga Post. Always a gentleman, that was not afraid to get dirty, we hope that his reputation for kindness to both people and animals will live on forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of over 40 years Beverly Ann Krug, his sister Jean Getchen (Jack), his grandson Jonathan Carey and his dear friend Connie Kennedy.
He is survived by his children John (Cindy) Wilkinson, Bill Jr (Debbie) Krug, Lisa (Mike) Carey and Randy (Darlene) Krug, his grandchildren, Derek Wilkinson (Claudia Ostrander), Nick Wilkinson (Paige Bright), Melissa Krug (Andy Vitek), Brett Krug (Molly Cantwell), Joshua Carey, Ashley (Matt) Auringer, and Mandy Krug, and his great grandchildren Abigail and Benjamin Auringer. Bill is also survived by his brother Larry (Mary) Krug, his sisters Joyce (Don) Hunter, Kathy (Larry) Otty and Laurel (Mike) Russell, many nieces and nephews, and his buddy Striper.
The family would like to thank all of his doctors, especially Dr. Ronald Hoenzsch for his care over the years and the staff of Community Hospice for their caring assistance in helping us with his determination to stay home and work until his last day.
